The Great Vigil of Easter Saturday, April 15 at 8:00 PM
The first service of Easter Day is the Vigil observed after sundown on Saturday night. We begin in semi-darkness as the new fire – the Paschal candle – is lit from the prairie burn and processed into the church. We hear stories of deliverance and God’s fierce love for us. We renew our baptismal promises. And, then the church, still in relative darkness, witnesses the “rebuilding of the altar” which has been bare since Maundy Thursday. The Altar Guild brings out the cross, linens, candles, flowers, EVERYTHING! The lights come up, the music sounds, the people sing, and we proclaim “ALLELUIA! THE LORD IS RISEN!” Then, we celebrate the first Eucharist of our joyful Easter!
Easter Day Sunday, April 16 at 9:15 AM
Our joyful Easter observance will continue with celebrations of Holy Eucharist and Baptism. This is truly a festival Eucharist, giving thanks for Christ’s resurrection from the dead and the gate of everlasting life opening for us. An Easter brunch follows worship.
